The Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences Prof. Dr. Ekin Akalan made statements to Demirören News Agency (DHA). Giving advice to students who want to pursue their studies in the field of health sciences, Prof. Dr. Ekin Akalan said, “Today, the future of Health Sciences is very bright both in the world and in Türkiye. This field is now on its way to becoming not only national but also international.”
Stating that many students from modern countries prefer Türkiye in order to improve themselves in the field of health sciences, Prof. Dr. Ekin Akalan said that Türkiye has taken up the rational notion of closely following the countries that make modern science.
The Dean, who mentioned that the standards in education are now quite high, made the statement that, “The people we train with these high standards can also find a job in Germany, England, and Australia. The student can work in London as well as in Ankara without experiencing any problems in deficiency. Türkiye is, in terms of its geographical location, also a complete transition and synthesis region. Therefore, the rate of patients is also high. Because of that, students can have all the experiences here”.
“For Nursing the Best Experience is Gained in Türkiye ”
Expressing that the future of health sciences is very bright, Prof. Dr. Akalan said, “For example, departments such as nursing, nutrition and dietetics, physiotherapy and rehabilitation have a very bright future. The path that students will pursue after finishing off their education depends entirely on them and their visions. For example, nutrition and dietetics are combined studies in our university. You can work in either of the two separate fields, nutrition, or dietetics. If a nursing student cannot gain experience in Türkiye , they cannot gain experience anywhere else. That is because the state takes extra care to ensure the proper training of the students of nursing. It creates extra internship opportunities and none of the graduates of the Department of Nursing have a hard time finding a job.”
“It Can Be Done If There is Passion”
The Dean, who gave suggestions to those who want to prefer health sciences, said, “Health sciences are a passion. Passion, on the other hand, contains love and anger in it. You need to eat humble pie until you get what you want. You will get angry until you get what you want. But your love will always keep you going. The diploma you get will also be the diploma of your passion. Suppose you become a nurse. The places where you work may not be modern at all. But your respect and passion for your profession will keep you going. Namely, if you don’t have a passion, you cannot do that profession. Do not expect that a patient with pain coming to physiotherapy will treat you well. Understanding the patient's condition and finding a solution can sometimes be a tall order but you try to understand them and continue to do your job in the best way. That is to say, when you get the diploma, anger and love keep going for life. It is necessary to love the path you tread, to love people. You will also have to work hard on your studies in this field, take at least 2-3 exams a day, get acquainted with many diseases, do internships, fight to understand different concepts. Those who work in health sciences always affect people. This leads people to smile at you.
