Istanbul Kültür University Movement Analysis Application and Evaluation, Application and Research Center (IKU-HAM), which aims to provide health services under the headings of consultancy, education, research and social responsibility, was opened. In the center established on an area of 450 square meters, applications and research of health services for observation, monitoring, analysis and treatment on human biomechanics will be carried out. In addition, it will be possible to detect places where pain can occur before body pain occurs.

The Motion Analysis Application and Evaluation, Application and Research Center, which started its activities under the leadership of the academic staff of IKU Faculty of Health Sciences, was opened with a ceremony held on Friday, December 24. Thanks to the system in the room with 6 cameras, which was installed with the highest technology motion capture system, the patient will be evaluated separately from every aspect. After the opening ceremony at Akıngüç Auditorium and Art Center in our Ataköy campus, a tour was organized for the presentation of the center. Our Chairman of the Board of Trustees Dr. Bahar Akıngüç Günver, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Sinan Alçın, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences & Director of IKU-HAM Prof. Dr. Nazif Ekin Akalan, academic-administrative staff and students attended the presentation.

“It Will Become a Data Center”

Stating that they have been working on the center for 2 years, our Chairman of the Board of Trustees Bahar Akıngüç Günver said, “We went through very difficult processes due to the pandemic. During this period, students, youth and children went through a very difficult period regarding physical health. We know that there are some health problems in his spine.

It is a fact that there is a lack of data in the field of health, as in many other subjects. With this center, we have taken an important step by using new approaches in cooperation with other faculties. It is a beautiful center, we have made an important investment. A beautiful area of 450 square meters. We will both collect data and our teachers will do important work on public health. It will be a data center for research.”

“We Detect Pain Before It Occurs”

Stating that every movement is evaluated in the center and an effort is made to understand beforehand the places where pain may occur, our Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences & Director of IKU-HAM Prof. Dr. Nazif Ekin Akalan said, “We plan to apply what we understand to the clinic and make it a part of the treatment. We describe the patient's problems during walking and send it back to the physician, doctor or physiotherapist who sent it to us with a report.

In this way, the doctor can find out exactly the problems related to movement about his patient. Any problem while walking means that it repeats 10 thousand times if we consider that we take 10 thousand steps in daily life. These 10 thousand repetitions will come back to you in the form of pain. We can find them before these pains happen. After it happens, we can find the primary cause of the pain.” he said.

There are also studies on muscle diseases

Stating that he has studies on muscle diseases such as SMA, Duchenne and Parkinson, Prof. Dr. Akalan said, “Here, we identify problems related to movement. If a treatment is to be done, we help the doctor decide which of those treatments may be more effective. We can compare treatments with each other. We also reveal how effective the treatment is.” used the phrases.

Cannot Apply Individually

Reminding that there are no individual applications to the center and that bilateral relations are important, our teacher said, “We have pediatrics, spine evaluations, sports injuries, arm related departments and innovation department in this evaluation center. Athletes can also be tested to predict where the injury will originate from, and whether they reach the parameters of returning to the field after the injury. You have a bilateral relationship with the hospital. If such an analysis is desired, we are here. It is enough to make a bilateral agreement with us and we are open to everyone.” said.

Prof. Dr. Akalan emphasized that they are working in cooperation with international universities.

Center for Clean Data

Stating that the main goal is to reach the level of contemporary civilizations, Prof. Dr. Nazif Ekin Akalan continued his words as follows:

“Some diseases are permanent, but some progress by showing progression. We can show numerically how far the disease has progressed. If a treatment method wants to improve, slow down or stop the worsening, it shows exactly that. When the wrong treatment method is made, this is the first center to tell. As such, it is a center that will protect the patient from loss of time, money and effort. This is not a treatment center, but a center where clean data that will decide the treatment are given.”
